On Vercel Pro, a feature called Spend Management lets you set an On-Demand Budget. On its own that only notifies you. To make it a cap, you also turn on Pause Production Deployments.

Who can use it
- Spend Management is available on Pro and on Enterprise teams with the Flexible Commitment plan, at no extra cost.
- You need the Owner or Billing role on the team.
- On the free Hobby plan there are no billing cycles. Vercel says that if you exceed Hobby usage limits, "In most cases ... you will have to wait until 30 days have passed before you can use the feature again." (Hobby plan)
Turn on Spend Management
Vercel says "When you set a spend amount, Vercel automatically enables web and email notifications for your team." They fire at 50%, 75% and 100% of the amount.
Make it a hard stop
Vercel's own warning: "Setting a spend amount does not stop usage on its own." The pause switch is what stops it.
Add a webhook (optional)
What the cap does
- When the spend amount is reached, Vercel pauses the production deployment of every project on the team. Visitors see a
503 DEPLOYMENT_PAUSEDerror. - Web and email alerts fire at 50%, 75% and 100%. SMS is available at 100%.
What it does not do
- It is not instant. Vercel checks spend "every few minutes," so projects "can keep serving traffic and accruing usage for several minutes" after you cross the amount.
- It only pauses production deployments. It "does not stop AI Gateway API key usage or v0 usage billed to your team."
- Storage keeps billing, including Deployment and Functions Storage, Vercel Blob and Container Registry image storage.
- Seats, integrations such as Marketplace, and add-ons are not counted.
- Projects don't unpause when you raise the amount. You resume each project by hand or with the REST API.
- Alert emails and SMS go only to members with the Owner or Billing role.
